Situated along the banks of the Matlabas river in the beautiful Limpopo Valley bushveld, CROWN GAME BREEDERS, is proud to bring you some of the best genetics available in South Africa. This, combined with scientifically formulated feeding, precise record-keeping and extensive experience in game breeding will add significant value to your investment.
Over the past few years, we have searched for some of the best breeding stock in South Africa, and are proud to offer Sable, Buffalo, Golden Wildebeest, King Wildebeest, Golden Gemsbok, Roan, Black Impala, White flanked Impala, Bushveld Impala, and Nyala.
We were extremely privileged to have had two of the industry's most renowned Sable bulls as foundational sires to our current breeding programs. These are Rapella 52 4/8" pure Matetsi and Woempa 49" West Zambian, both of whom have produced multiple 50" bulls in their progeny lines.
Today we set the pace in genetic performance with our breeding bulls:
-
Damascus 58 1/8" @ 6y 4m, son of Rapella.
-
Rapella Jr. 56 2/8" @ 7y 2m, pure Matetsi, Grandson of Rapella.
-
Moremi 50 5/8" @ 7y 6m, pure Matetsi, new genetics from Namibia, grandson of 50 4/8" Jo Black.
-
Nitro 55" @ 5y 10m, Grandson of Rapella.
The world reknowned Rapella has the largest genetic footprint in the sable breeding industry. Currently the two largest sables are both progeny of Rapella. What makes this even more phenomenal is the fact that these legendary genetics also descend to the female offspring. Giant Lady was the largest female sable and now Optima Giant is the largest living sable cow.
To add diversity to our herds we used Houdini 48 1/4" (93% Matetsi) - son of Magic 49", we moved him out, and we are diversifying by adding new genetics such as Nitro 55" and Moremi 50 5/8" for optimal results.
Although our West Zambian Bull Woempa 49" - Sire of Lomba 50 2/8" died, we are still in a fortunate position to have quite a few of this sought after genetics in our Zambian herd.
With our Buffalo breeding bull that speaks for himself...
Max 49" + at 7y and 8m, the biggest son of the well known Buffalo Bull Matetsi.
We were also honoured to have had Horison 55 6/8" as one of our breeding bulls, and thus have some of the best buffalo genetics this country has to offer.
We have also been breeding superior Bushveld impala for more than a decade, and have a had few 27”+ rams out of our progeny. Our original breeding male was Lampies 27 4/8". We now breed with a Lampies son and our base females comes from only the best genetic lines available.
History
Crown Game Breeders consists of three farms – Jakkalsfontein, Elysium, Canterbury and Somerset Noord. Combined the farms cover 6500 ha. We have been in the game breeding industry for over 21 years, but have specialized in rare game only in the last 10 years. Ben is an avid businessman, whose family farm was bought in 1985.Pieter was born on the farm where he lives, and has been game farming and hunting since 1994.
Pieter was initially using Ben’s farm as a hunting concession, but after some strategizing, they decided that it could be a great partnership to establish Crown Game Breeders and start intensive breeding projects. The game breeding projects flourished and the Crown Family are going from strength to strength. We farm with 11 rare and exotic game species intensively, and extensively with another 10 other game species.
We employ 15 people. We often send staff members who show potential and love what they do, on courses like a professional hunting course or on a cooking course. It is great to see them develop to their full potential. We also have students doing their final year with us. We have a hunting lodge which contributes towards economic growth and employment in the local community.
We are affiliated with Professional Hunters Association of South Africa (PHASA), Safari Club International (SCI) and Wildlife Ranchers South Africa (WRSA).
Philosophy
We don’t believe that the result of good breeding is only dependent on the looks of the sire and dam. We believe in obtaining only from the best-proven bloodlines. We look at how a certain bloodline performs with other bloodlines overall. Certain animals that are under average sometimes also breed better than others who are outstanding animals. You need to know your animals, and your animal recordkeeping should be up to date, so that you can make informed decisions.
